Abstract

Maintaining the stability of the active power and frequency between the generator and the network system is very important, because if the generator output power and frequency are unstable, it will cause damage to the generator. Maintaining frequency stability is influenced by speed drop and deadband settings. Speed droop is a percentage number that states the sensitivity of a generating unit in responding to frequency changes, while the deadband is a frequency change value at which the governor begins to respond to increase or decrease the generator's active power output. The smaller the speed droop setting, the more sensitive the governor is to changes in frequency and the working range of the geovernor deadband is also getting smaller. Inaccuracies in setting the speed drop and deadband can affect the work of the generating unit. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of setting speed droop and deadband governor unit 1 of PLTA Maninjau. This study uses quantitative methods with descriptive analysis techniques. The data source used is the operational data of the Maninjau PLTA unit 1. The data will be analyzed based on the determination of the speed drop and deadband values that affect the frequency and power output of the generator. Based on data sources obtained from hydropower, the speed droop and deadband settings are 8% and 4% for speed droop, while for deadband the settings are 0.6% and 0.2%, respectively. Based on the rules, the frequency difference that is allowed is 1% or 0.5 Hz and when viewed from the operational data of the Maninjau PLTA unit 1, there is no difference in frequency greater than 0.5 Hz. From the calculation of the deadband working range (governor response) it can be seen that with a 1% speed droop setting it can respond to frequency changes in PLTA unit 1, therefore PLTA Maninjau can set speed droop at a 1% setting.
