Abstract

Nozzle rig on the steam bench is a tool that serves to convert the pressure energy of steam into kinetic energy, where the pressure will be changed from high pressure to lower pressure. The vapor flowing in the nozzle will occupy the place around it quickly, therefore, the expansion in the nozzle is said to be adiabatic. At the Energy Conversion Engineering Laboratory at Politeknik Negeri Bandung, the nozzle rig on the steam bench has not been used for a long time, resulting in indications of nozzle damage and inaccurate pressure readings. With the improvement, the performance of the nozzle rig can be done by calculating the steam flow velocity, steam mass flow rate, and Reynolds number. The pressure drop at each probe point varies depending on how much vapor pressure enters the nozzle. The actual calculation value is smaller than the theoretical calculation due to the losses that occur when steam flows at the nozzle. The highest nozzle speed of 4.053 m/s with a vapor mass flow rate of 1.5517 x 10-5 is at probe position 50 with an inlet pressure of 5 bar. The lowest nozzle speed of 1.618 m/s with a vapor mass flow rate of 8.728 x 10-5 is found at probe position -10 with an inlet pressure of 5 bar.
